Nate Joven: Midwest HS Volleyball Player of the Week; 13 others recognized

March 17, 2022

Congratulations to Nate Joven, BCHS senior and setter for the BCHS Boys Volleyball team, who was named the Maxpreps/AVCA High School Player of the Week for the Midwest Region. Joven totaled 61 assists (10.167/set), as well as 23 digs and one ace, and helped lead Bishop Chatard to a 4-0 record at the Carmel Opening Round Robin tournament.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association also named 13 members of the Bishop Chatard Boys Volleyball team to their preseason recognition lists.

Congratulations to Seniors Nolan Bosley, Nate Flora, Luke Gzibovskis, Charlie Harr, Nate Joven, and Michael Yurk, who were named to the AVCA All-America Watch List. Also, congratulations to Christopher Board ’23, Nick Pettrone ’23, Max Schroder ’23, Will Szentes ’23, Zeke Jarzyniecki ’23, Bryce Corbett ’24, and Jake Weber ’24, who were named to the AVCA High Risers List.

Donovan McMahon advances to Diving Regionals; other sectionals results

Congratulations to BCHS Diver Donovan McMahon, as he advanced to the 2022 Diving Regionals, with a third place in Sectionals. Come cheer him on at Regionals on Tuesday, Feb. 22, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Brownsburg.

Other sectional swimming results were:

  • The BCHS Boys Swimming Team was 4th overall in the sectional
  • Oliver Gebke: 8th place in diving
  • 200 Medley Relay: 4th place with a new school record: 1:41.33 – Jack Steadham, Max Bourgeois, Aaron Loiselle, & Patrick Countryman
  • 200 Freestyle Relay: 3rd place with a new school record: 1:31:24 – Patrick Countryman, Max Bourgeois, Aaron Loiselle & Jack Steadham
  • 400 freestyle relay: Will Hasbrook, Danny O’Gara, Justin Garing, & Cormac McCarthy-Young (10th)
  • 100 Backstroke: 4th place with a new school record: 55.20 – Jack Steadham
  • 50 freestyle: Jack Steadham (5th) & Patrick Countryman (10th)
  • 500 Freestyle: Max Bourgeois: 8th place
  • 200 IM: Aaron Loiselle (6th) & Danny O’Gara (14)
  • 100 Butterfly: Aaron Loiselle (5th)
  • 100 Breaststroke: Max Bourgeois (8th) & Danny O’Gara (11th)

Girls Basketball is 2022 Regional Champion

Lady Trojans advance to the 2022 Class 3A Semi-State! The team defeated Tri-West, 52-45, and then Indian Creek in the Class 3A Regional final, 52-36, to become 2022 Regional Champions.

The team fell to a very good Silver Creek team in the Semi-State game, 64-54.

The team had balanced scoring and some big plays from individuals.

Izzy Davis had 14 points. Grace Adams had 11 points. Caroline Bell had 10 points. Kate Caskey had 5 points. Anna Thompson & Carly deCastro had 4 points each. Lilli Mohler had a big 3 pointer and Quinn Johnson had 2 points.

Wrestler Tommy Hannon heads to 2022 State Competition

Congratulations to Tommy Hannon (182LB), as he becomes the first BCHS wrestler since 2014 to advance to State competition!

Come cheer him on at The Fieldhouse on Feb. 18, beginning at 11:00 a.m. for the 152LB and heavier weight classes.

Tickets will be on sale at Ticketmaster beginning Feb. 16, at 10 a.m.

Grace Hurley places 7th in 2022 Diving State Meet

BCHS diver Grace Hurley placed 7th in the state at the State Diving Finals on Feb. 12. She placed 2nd in regionals to advance. Congratulations Grace!

Jamie O’Brien in 2022 Bowling Regionals

Jamie O’Brien went to Bowling regionals in Kokomo on Saturday, January 15, 2022. He bowled a combined score of 448 for three games. Although he finished on the low side, he made the team and school proud by being selected to compete in the Kokomo Regionals.

Wrestler Eli Bustamante is #20 in state; team places second in City Tourney

BCHS wrestler, senior Eli Bustamante, 152LB class, is currently ranked #20 in the state and undefeated in the season, with a record of 24-0.

The wrestling team placed second in the city tourney on Dec. 18, 2021, with a score of 200.5. City Champions include Eli (152), John Rushenberg (160) and Tommy Hannon (182). Gabriel McNamee (113), Charlie Rushenberg (145) and Kade Rickard (170) were city runners-up.

The team has an overall record of 17-5 and were North Putnam Invitational Champions.

Girls Swimming/Diving ’21 City Champs; Boys team takes 2nd in City Meet

The Girls Swimming/Diving Team are City Champions for the second year in a row.
  • 1st Place and City Champions are:
    • Medley Relay (Maddie Loiselle, Mia Todd, Hanna Ross, Jackie Figura); PR in the event of 2:02.38.
    • Hanna Ross: 100 free with a 58.57.
    • Girls 200 Free Relay (Jackie Figura, Mia Todd, Gabriella Herner, Hanna Ross) with a 1:49.92.
    • Gabriella Herner: 500 with a 5:53.23.
    • Maddie Loiselle: 100 back with a 1:05.52.
    • 400 Free Relay (Gabriella Herner, Maddie Loiselle, Mary-Claire McCarthy-Young, Hanna Ross) with a 4:06.75.
  • Maddie Loiselle: second in the 200 IM with a 2:30.14. Mary-Claire McCarthy-Young took third with 2:45.19.
  • Jackie Figura: second in the 50 free with a 28.10. Peyton Bean rounded out the top 8 with a 29.99.
  • Marguerite Bourgeois: second in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:21.55. Mia Todd was close behind with a 1:21.93 to take third.
  • Avery Nagel: third in the 200 Free with a 2:29.30.

Boys Swimming/Diving Team takes Second Place

With an amazing meet performance, the Boys team takes second place in the City Tourney.
  • First Place City Champions are:
    • Boys Medley Champions (Jack Steadham, Max Bourgeois, Aaron Loiselle, Patrick Countryman) with the time of 1:42.77. This also beat the BCHS record of 1:42.81. WOW!
    • Aaron Loiselle: first in 200 IM with a 2:07.53.
    • Boys 200 Free Relay (Patrick Countryman, Jack Steadham, Aaron Loiselle, Max Bourgeois) rocked a first-place finish with a time of 1:33.26.
    • Max Bourgeois: first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.64.
    • Max Bourgeois: first in the 500 with a 5:10.80.
  • Jack Steadham broke his own PR in the 50 with a new time of 22.06 with Patrick Countryman right behind him third with 23.53.
  • Aaron Loiselle placed second in the 100 fly with a 56.84.
  • Patrick Countryman took second in 100 free with a 52.66 with Alex Paz rounding out top 8 with a 59.08.
  • Jack Steadham broke another personal record in the 100 back with a 55.32.
  • Danny O’Gara: third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:09.05.

Lily Cridge sets state record; runs to second place in national meet; is MileSplit IN Runner of the Year

Congratulations to BCHS junior Lily Cridge, as she finished second in the Garmin Running Lane national meet in Huntsville, AL, on Dec. 4, 2021. She ran the 5000m course in 16 minutes, 22.81 seconds.

The previous girls Indiana record was 16:52.25, set by Mishawaka’s Anna Rohrer in 2015.

Lily’s previous best was 17:04.6 at the Shelbyville Semistate on Oct. 23. Lily won the 2021 state cross country title on Oct. 30, 2021, at Terre Haute, winning by 31 seconds in a time of 17:32.7 on a slow, rain-soaked course.

The winner of the national race, Natalie Cook from Flower Mound, TX, won the event with a time of 16:03.93. The top twenty in the nationals all ran under 17 minutes.
