Moira McGinley has been named the 2020-2021 Female City Athlete of the Year!

Moira McGinley of Bishop Chatard HS has been ‘on the go’ since her freshman year. She has lettered in Cross Country, Golf, Basketball and Track for a total of ten monograms. Cross Country and Golf were fun sports for her and displayed her athletic versatility. Basketball has been Moira’s primary sport and athletic love!

Her tremendous playing IQ allowed her to consistently anticipate plays and opponents’ moves before they happened, which resulted in good things for her team. As a 96-game varsity starter, Moira became the school’s all-time leader in scoring and steals, while helping lead her squads to two Sectional Championships and the school’s first-ever City Title. It did not matter whether she was scoring, defending, or rebounding as Moira only cared about how her team was doing.

Moira was named All City and All Conference for four consecutive years, and she also earned 2nd Team All State honors by the ICGSA. She also showed her athleticism in Track & Field by scoring in an array of events during her career. She was a Regional qualifier in both the Long Jump and High Jump events. Her performances have added to her team’s depth that have produced three City Championships and one Conference Team Title.

Moira is a four-year Student Council member and served as Student Body Vice President her Senior year. She also received Bishop Chatard’s Medal of Honor, which is given to one graduating senior that demonstrates the values, beliefs, and actions of the school’s mission. Her love of competition also extends to the classroom where she was a consistent honor roll student and received the Academic Excellence Award in Public Speaking.

Moira will continue her academic and basketball pursuits at DePauw University.

Congratulations, Moria.
