Girls Diving Record Broken

November 25, 2019
Congratulations to freshman Grace Hurley, who scored 228.95 in Diving, taking the first place spot in the first meet of the season and breaking the BCHS school record. The Girls Swimming team placed 3rd in the meet, scoring 67 points in the Greenfield Central Invitational on Nov. 23, 2019.

2019 Soccer Players in All Star Games

Congratulations to Brady Armstrong, Danny Bardol, and David Harless in competing at the Indiana Elite North v. South All Star Games in November 2019. Brady took home the MVP award for the sophomore game.

Lady Trojan Cross Country at the 2019 State Finals

The Lady Trojans wrapped up their historic season by placing 11th at the 2019 state finals in Terre Haute. Freshman Lily Cridge earned all-state honors by placing 8th, the highest place for an individual in BCHS history. Lily’s teammates Emily Loiselle, Mary Bea Sowinski, Alex Gantz, Mayan Stickel, Caroline Bell, and Miranda Stickel all had great races as well and contributed the team’s impressive success this season.

Semi-State Results

The Lady Trojans are headed to the state finals!!

The team placed 4th in a very rainy and very competitive semi-state competition in Shelbyville. Lily Cridge (2nd) and Emily Loiselle (15th) earned all semi-state honors. Additionally, Mary Bea Sowinski, Alex Gantz, Mayan Stickel, Caroline Bell, and Miranda Stickel also had great races as they braved the conditions and earned their spot in the state finals.

Girls state final competition will be held on Sat., Nov. 2, at 1:45 p.m. (ET) at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, Wabash Valley Sports Center, 599 S. Tabortown Road, Terre Haute, IN 47803.

In boys semi-state cross country, junior Owen Teed closed out his very successful season by placing 63rd overall in a very rainy and very competitive semi-state competition in Shelbyville. Congrats, Owen!

Regional Results

Congratulations to the girls cross country team, as the team placed 4th in a highly competitive regional meet to advance to 2019 Semi-State Competition.

Earning All-Regionals honors were freshman Lily Cridge (17:56, 3rd place) and Emily Loiselle (18:12, 5th). Both ladies broke the school record! Critical points were also scored by sophomores Mary Bea Sowinski, Alex Gantz, and Mayan Stickel.

Junior Owen Teed advanced to the boys semi-state as an individual with the personal best time of 16:15. His teammates Charlie Jacoba (16:37) and Ethan Clapacs (16:49) also impressively broke the 17 minute mark.

Semi-State competition will be held at Shelbyville on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019. Boys begins at 10:30 a.m. and girls at 11:15 a.m.

The boys team placed 9th overall in a very competitive regional meet.

2019 Sectional Results

The Lady Trojans won the sectional championship! Lily Cridge was the meet runner-up and Emily Loiselle (6th), Mary Bea Sowinksi (12th), Alex Gantz (13th) also made the All-Sectional team. Mayan Stickel, Caroline Bell, and Miranda Stickel helped to seal the team’s victory over a loaded field at Brebeuf High School.

The Trojans boys cross country team qualified for the regional meet by placing 5th at the sectional meet hosted by Brebeuf High School. Owen Teed (8th) and Ethan Clapacs (14th) made the All-Sectional team. Charlie Jacoba, Will Johnson, Connor Brandon, Connor Moriarty, and Liam Murphy also contributed to the team’s successful advancement to the next round of the state tournament.

The regional competition will be held at Noblesville on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

BCHS welcomes Jim Joven as new Boys Volleyball Head Coach

Bishop Chatard High School has named Jim Joven as its Boys Volleyball Varsity Head Coach. Joven assumes the position immediately in preparation for the 2020 spring season.

Joven brings experience with both developing competitive volleyball programs and serving as a coach within those programs. Prior to being named the Head Coach of the Bishop Chatard Varsity program, he served as Junior Varsity Head Coach in 2019, leading the Trojan JV squad to a 21-5 season record. In 2018-2019, Joven also served as an assistant coach at The Academy Volleyball Club, and he is currently the Boys Volleyball Coordinator and Head Boys Coach for St. Simon the Apostle Catholic School.

As the varsity coach, Joven plans to emphasize fundamental skills and strategies, as well as developing a volleyball culture conducive to sustained success.

“I am excited to have Coach Joven take over the head coaching duties as he has a dynamic plan for our Boys Volleyball squad,” Athletic Director Mike Ford said. “His passion and excitement for volleyball is contagious!”

Joven is at home both on and in the court. He earned his law degree from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University – Bloomington and has served as a Marion Superior Court Judge since 2013. He was a four-year letter award winner in track and field at Wabash College, and played rec league and intramural volleyball, as well as Wallyball, while in college and law school. He and his wife, Carol, are members of St. Simon the Apostle Parish and are raising three current Bishop Chatard Trojans.

Maggie Schaffer at 2019 Regional Golf Competition

All State golfer Maggie Schaffer shot 80 in sectionals to advance to regional competition. In regionals, she shot 75 but lost in a sudden death playoff to make State. Maggie played 19 holes in regional competition and made 17 pars! Congratulations Maggie, on a phenomenal BC career!

Lorenzano honored as Indiana Football Hall of Fame inductee

On Friday, July 12, during halftime of the 2019 Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Classic, retired head football coach Vince Lorenzano will be recognized for being accepted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. BCHS Class of 2019 graduate Will Meyer, a 2018 football team captain and lineman for the Trojans, will represent Bishop Chatard in the game. Action will begin at 7:15 p.m. at North Central High School, and members of the Trojan community are encouraged to attend to support Coach Lorenzano and Will. Tickets are available at the gate: $10/adults and $5/students. Coach Lorenzano served as head football coach at Bishop Chatard for 14 years, from the 2003 through the 2016 football season. During that time, the Trojan football team won seven Indiana state championships, taking home the trophy in 2003, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. During his tenure, the team also accrued a number of sectional, regional and state-runner up titles. He began his coaching career at Scecina Memorial High School in 1983 and his career included assistant and head coach positions at Cathedral, Cardinal Ritter and Mississinewa high schools. Lorenzano retired from coaching in December 2016, and he continues to serve at Bishop Chatard as the school’s Director of Safety & Wellness.

Beth Barnes is 2019 Female City Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Beth Barnes, who was named the 2019 Female City Athlete of the Year.

Beth is a three-year letterwinner in volleyball and a four-year letterwinner in track and a difference-maker for both programs. She was named All-City in track for multiple events over her career. She was the 2018 State Champion in 300m hurdles.

Boys Golf heads to 2019 Regionals

June 6, 2019
Congratulations to the Boys 2019 Golf Team, as they placed 3rd in Sectionals with 351 and advance to Regional competition. Matthew Semler recorded the low score for BC with an 81 followed by Ben Annakin (88), Ben Schrage (90), John Schaffer (92) and Clay Fox (96). Regionals will be held on June 6, 2019 at The Players Club.

Rugby Teams win 2019 State Competition

Congratulations to the Royal Irish Varsity Rugby Team, who won the Rugby Indiana 2019 Spring State Championship on May 29 with a 20-12 victory over Penn High School. The JV team also won their state final game, with a 31-14 win over Penn H.S.
