2023 Girls Track is City Champion

The 2023 BCHS Lady Trojan Track Team claimed their 13th straight City Championship. They won by 31 points over 14th-ranked Cathedral, also in the City meet. The following athletes or relays were city champs:

  • 200 meters – Bri Buels
  • 400 meters – Addison Duncan
  • 800 meters – Julia Score
  • 1600 meters – Julia Score
  • Discus – Anna Thompson
  • 4 x 1 – Adeline Miller, Bri Buels, Reese McKinney, and Caroline Bell
  • 4 x 4 – Mary Kate Felts, Lena Stickel, Reese McKinney, and Grace Felts

The following athletes all scored varsity points and were a big part of the victory: Ceci Jackson, Maggie Rushenberg, Caroline Clapacs, Morgan Engelman, Alex Teed, Josie Sandifur, Hannah Ross, Gabbie McCordy and Charlotte Dudik.

2023 Track Conference Champions

The track and field program had a phenomenal Conference meet winning in dominating fashions with the Boys winning by 15 points and the Girls by 42 points. The team had strong performances from the sprinters, hurdlers, distance runners and field event athletes. The teams were highlighted with 8 Conference Champions.

Lily Cridge: 2022 IN Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year

Congratulations to Lily Cridge, who was named the 2022 Indiana Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year at the Indiana High School Sports Awards Night in April. Julia Score was also nominated for the award.

Rachel Ward, ’11, is named E. Stroudsburg U. lacrosse coach

Rachel Ward, BCHS Class of 2011, is now in her fourth year of coaching the women’s lacrosse team at East Stroudsburg University, the No. 1 team in the 2023 Nike/USA Lacrosse Division II Women’s Preseason Top 20.

The team is coming off the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II championship game. Rachel had been nationally recognized for her contributions in that year by being named the IWLCA’s Division II Outstanding Assistant Coach in 2022.

For the 2023 season, Rachel takes on a new challenge, as she is the interim head coach for the team while the current head coach is on maternity leave.

“At the end of the day, my job is to help the players be the best they can be every single day,” Rachel said. “Does it get a little stressful? Yeah, it does. But it’s the season. The season is what we live for, and if I have to take on a couple of extra things to help them, then I will do that.” 1

Rachel played received many awards while playing at BCHS and played collegiate women’s lacrosse at Lock Haven University, helping them advance to NCAA Div. II Final Four in 2014.

The Boys and Girls Track and Field program competed at the Indoor State Meet in March 2023 with great performances across the board. The Boys were Indoor State Champs and the Girls were State Runner ups. Congratulations to the following:

2023 Hockey team is League Champion

February 23, 2023

Congratulations to the Central Indiana Knight Hockey team, as they won the Hoosier League tournament vs Hamilton Southeastern, 2-0, in the Championship game. The team finished the regular season as league champs. The Knights are currently ranked #4 in the state and on February 24, 2023, head to South Bend for the start of the 4A state tournament.

The Central Indiana Knights hockey team includes students from Bishop Chatard, Cathedral, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Heights, Noblesville, Park Tudor, Pendleton Heights and Sheridan high schools. For the 2022/23 season, BCHS students Luke Funk(Varsity) and Eli Holt, Ellis Cates, Spencer Brown (JV) are on the team.

Jack Steadham advances to State Swimming; Team places 5th in Sectional

Boys swimming team placed 5th out of 13 teams in the 2023 sectionals: a great accomplishment. The team members had some impressive individual performances as well.
  • Congratulations to Jack Steadham, who finished 2nd in the 50 free and advanced to state competition at the IUPUI Natatorium, Feb. 24-25.
  • Donovan McMahon finished 5th in diving.
  • The Boys Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay both had strong showings and finished in the top three.
Overall, the team had a lot of talented swimmers who contributed to the team’s success throughout the season. It’s great to see a group of individuals come together and achieve something collectively, and the boys’ team did just that. Congratulations to all the team members on a great season!

Girls Basketball is 2023 Regional Champion

February 20, 2023

Congratulations to the BCHS girls basketball team, as they won the 2023 3A Regional with a 52-48 win over Cascade (21-2) on Feb. 11, 2023. This is the second year in a row that they won the regional.

In semi-state semi-finals, the Lady Trojans met Indian Creek. Leading at half-time, 29-28, they weren’t able to hold on and lost 76-47, ending their Cinderella run.

Sectional Recap

Girls sectional team

The Lady Trojans advanced to the championship game vs Heritage Christian by an overtime win vs Guerin Catholic, 45 – 43 and a 33-32 win over Brebeuf Jesuit.

The game vs Heritage Christian (17-8) was a barn-burner. The two teams met during the regular season, where BCHS lost 62-55 and the City Tourney, where BCHS lost 52-36. But, the Lady Trojans prevailed in the sectional championship matchup, 61-57, in a double overtime win.

5 Wrestlers advance to 2023 Semi-State

February 12, 2023

Congratulations to the following BCHS wrestlers, who advanced to the 2023 Semi-State contest. The team placed 4th in the Regionals. Pictured above are those advancing to the Semi-State. At the semi-state, all wrestlers made it to the ‘ticket round’ where their season came to an end.

8 wrestlers advanced to regional action!

BCHS Girls Swimming places 4th; Grace Hurley advances to State Diving

Swimming Sectionals

The Bishop Chatard Girls swim team had an outstanding performance at the 2023 Sectional Meet at North Central High School, finishing 4th out of 12 teams. This was the best finish for the Girls team in recent history and the team put forth some impressive results.

The highlight of the meet was the Medley Relay, with Hanna Ross, Marguerite Bourgeois, Katie Countryman, and Gabriella Herner, breaking the school record with a time of 1:58:38. This was an exceptional accomplishment for the team.

Katie Countryman was a standout performer, breaking her own school record in the 50 Free with a time of 24.64 and placing 4th in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.38. Hanna Ross also had a strong showing, placing 7th in the 100 Free and 8th in the 100 Back. Marguerite Bourgeois finished 13th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 100 Breast. Other notable performances included Mary-Claire McCarthy Young placing 15th in the 200 IM, Gabby Herner placing 11th in the 500 Free, Ann Zyromski placing 16th in the 500 Free, and Elaine Dilts, Gabby Herner, Hanna Ross and Katie Countrymen placing 4th in the 200 free. The cheering was especially loud as the four senior girls closed out the last event: Gabi Pozsgai, Millie Teeple, Avery Nagel and Maisie McMahon who showed great technique and speed in the 400 Free Relay.

Diving – Grace Hurley heads to State Competition

Diving was also a strong point for the Bishop Chatard Girls. Grace Hurley won the sectional Meet and advanced to Regionals on Feb. 7. She placed 2nd there, advancing to the State Meet on Feb. 11 at IUPUI. Good luck Grace!

Overall, it was an incredible performance by the Bishop Chatard Girls swim and diving team. Congratulations to all the girls on a fantastic meet and best of luck to Grace Hurley as she competes at the State Meet!
