Sarah Meek is 2020 US Lacrosse Award Winner

July 2, 2020

Congratulations to Sarah Meek, BCHS Class of 2020, who was chosen as the 2020 US Lacrosse Jackie Pitts Award winner from Indiana. Sarah will be attending the University of Detroit Mercy in the fall 2020 to pursue a degree and play Division I lacrosse.

The Jackie Pitts Award recognizes a senior player, in every state, who goes above and beyond in service to her team, school, and community. An athlete, who truly honors the game of lacrosse, is invested in the development of the game in her community and is an exemplary member of her team. This player exemplifies the fundamentals of lacrosse, works hard to improve her game, and exemplifies the spirit of the game both on and off the field. Academically, she is an outstanding student and a valued role model in her school.

Sarah’s head coach Julie Jerrell stated, “Sarah is an outstanding example of a strong, uncompromised, independent female who values her family, faith, studies and most importantly herself in everything she pursues. Sarah is a tremendous student as her grades and test scores will support, with an exceptional ability to manage her studies throughout the school year and during a very busy and competitive lacrosse season. She is a three-sport varsity athlete in volleyball, basketball and lacrosse, and is a top state-level player in all.” Throughout her high school career, Sarah has helped coach various youth lacrosse teams and clinics. When an ACL injury sidelined her early in her senior year, she embraced an even greater role to develop youth and high school lacrosse players.

The INGLA board and the Awards Committee as well as the Bishop Chatard community congratulate Sarah!

Patrick Mastrian is named 2020 Male City Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Trojan Patrick Mastrian, named the 2020 City Male Athlete of the Year by the Marion County Athletic Association.

Patrick was a four-year letter winner in baseball, a three-year letter winner in football, and he rejoined the basketball squad after a two-year absence to letter once. In football he displayed his athletic range with scoring on pass receptions, but defense was his forte as he established a new school record with returning four interceptions during the 2019 season for touchdowns and recording 12 interceptions over his Junior and Senior seasons. Patrick also had a knack for blocking extra points and field goals, establishing the school record for career blocks. He helped lead his football squads to three sectional, two regional, one semi-state championships, as well as the 2019 3A State Football Championship.

Patrick decided to play basketball again in 2019-2020 after sitting out two seasons, and he helped lead the squad to its best record in eight years and only its second 15-win season in the past 12 years. He recorded stats of 9.4 ppg, 49% FG, 4.5 rpg, 1.5 spg, 1.0 apg.

But baseball is Patrick’s best sport, and coaches say that he is capable of playing any position on the field. He had a career batting average of .348 and pitching ERA of 2.34. He also established a Bishop Chatard school record for career triples with 12. These stats are even more impressive when you consider his Senior season was cancelled. He was named All Conference twice, All City once and was looking forward to a significant Spring season prior to its cancellation.

Patrick’s leadership is evident with his being named team captain in each of his three sports. Patrick is a very talented student who will be attending the University of Michigan to continue his baseball career and study Kinesiology.

Freshman Football Summer 2020

June 2, 2020

Welcome to 2020 Summer Freshman football!

Although the COVID pandemic has delayed the schedule, we are planning to start summer workouts on July 1, 2020. As long as things do not change for the worse, workouts will be going 3 days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Even though we cannot physically get together in June, we want to start adding the freshmen to what we will be doing in June. Please complete the ‘To-Do List’ below as soon as possible so that we can get going with the freshmen class.

To Do List

  1. Email Freshmen coach Matt Jennings at his email: to tell us your son is interested in playing this fall. You will be added to the final parent email list, for future information. Please do this as soon as possible so we can get a clear count of all of our new players.
  2. Once we confirm your son is interested, we will get your son a Bishop Chatard email address so he can be added to our HUDL account, and start attending some of our weekly video training sessions online. We cannot add him to the account without a BCHS email address.
  3. Send us your son’s practice pack sizes, using the button below.

Submit Your Practice Pack Sizes

Check your email often, as Coach Jennings and Coach Martin will have additional details for you. Questions? Contact Coach Jennings at or via cell phone: 317-289-0866
