Donovan McMahon is Sectional Diving Champion; Boys Swim Team places 4th

February 24, 2025

Congratulations to Donovan McMahon, who won the 2025 Diving Event in Sectionals, punching his ticket to Regionals on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025 at Plainfield. The meet starts at 6:00 pm. Donovan got the victory with a score of 476.85. (Ethan Lyon finished 9th with 222.75 points).

The Trojan Boys Team placed 4th in Sectionals, for their highest finish since 2022 and most points since 2015.

In the medley relay, Kellen Ford (29.66), Tommy O’Gara (34.16), Sebastian Bourgeois (27.47), and Marcus Monachino (24.65) dropped over a second from their prelims performance to finish 7th.

Next up was Sebastian in the 200 IM, who dropped a second from his prelims time to lower his lifetime best to 2:15.38 and finish 11th.

The 50 free was huge for the Trojans, as Alex Paz finished 2nd (22.54), Marin Bonhomme finished 4th (22.85), and Santiago Cutchin finished 6th (23.28).

Santi (59.78) and Sebastian (1:02.51) both dropped time in the 100 fly to finish 11th and 16th.

The Trojans had three outstanding performances in the 100 free. In the B final, Tommy dropped from his prelims time to finish 16th in 59.50, and Kellen dropped over a second from prelims to win the B final in a new lifetime best of 52.72. Swimming in the A final, Alex dropped 1.3 seconds to finish 5th with a 49.91.

The 200 free relay was one of the most exciting races I’ve seen in a while. Santi (23.26), George Park (23.74), Marin (22.59), and Alex (21.99) combined for a 1:31.58. Despite outstanding splits on the first three legs, Alex dove in nearly 3 seconds behind North Central and rocketed to close the gap, finishing just 0.36 seconds back. Looking at the other Sectionals, the Trojan relay was the 41st fastest in the state.

In the 100 breaststroke B final, Sean O’Gara improved on his seed, finishing 15th in 1:17.88. In the A final, Marin had an excellent swim to finish 5th in 1:03.53.

In the 400 free relay, Santi (51.23), Kellen (53.65), Marin (50.31), and Alex (49.64) combined for a 3:24.83—just 0.61 off the school record—to finish third.
